Tourmaline grows in hexagonal rod-like crystals. To create these visually stunning cross-sections, a tiny drill blade is pulled through the natural crystal, just like cutting slices of bread from a whole loaf. These slices were cut from a natural watermelon tourmaline crystal from Brazil. Once plentiful, pure watermelon tourmaline crystals are quickly becoming more rare.
