This is a rare collection of actual lazurite minerals. Lazurite is the “main ingredient” in lapis lazuli. It is a cubic crystal that exhibits the most sought-after blue colors in the history of the world. In Afghanistan, where these are harvested, they call this whole combination of minerals lapis lazuli. Meaning, the white matrix stone and accompanying minerals (calcite, quartz, mica, pyrite, and biotite) and the deep blue crystal of lazurite are all referred to as lapis lazuli. In the U.S., we generally think of lapis lazuli as a blue rock with white, silver and gold swirling colors.
